Few years ago, we had to stand in the long queue to book railway tickets, it was time taking, annoying and boring. Later train ticket booking in India got a bit simpler and it became possible to book your train tickets online or from different authorized locations, such as banks, travel agencies etc. Sometime ago Indian Railway started it’s online PNR status checker facility to enter your PNR number online and get the status of your booking immediately. Now, Indian Railway moved a step forward and is allowing people to check PNR status by SMS.
If you are in a hurry and don’t have time to either call railway helpline number or sit online to check PNR status, you can send a SMS from your mobile mentioning your PNR number and your PNR status will be sent to you. All reservation and provision issues or status related to your train booking is now available by SMS.
Check PNR status by SMS
- Go to your mobile message option and compose a SMS
- Type PNR followed by your 10 digit PNR number with space (EX : PNR 5478990013)
- Send the SMS to 139
- You will get a SMS on your mobile with details about your train reservation details
- You are done.
You can also make a call to 139 or 131 from your mobile to check PNR status. Call facility is available across all mobile networks in India while SMS feature is yet to be available on all mobile networks like Reliance and BSNL. Local call charges are applicable for any calls to Indian Railway helpline numbers.
