Looking at the trend, one can clearly observe that it was only since December 2010 that large numbers of enrolments were happening till now( May 2011 ) 71,54,895 enrolments have taken.
Aadhar is a humongous program being headed by Nandan Nilekani that aims to deliver a Unique identification number to each and every citizen of India. That number can solely be used to identify a person (easily, online too) any time for providing many services such as opening a bank account, applying for passport etc.
