Mobile Number Portability (M.N.P) will be launched on 20 - Jan - 2011.
 

Mobile Number Portability is the process by which, you can shift to another operator of your choice, but keep your old number. Best is, you don’t have to go through the trouble of informing all your friends & family that your number has changed - it stays the same. 



The Process of Mobile Number Portability  : -


step 1 : -  create a sms   PORT [space] your number

step 2 : - send it to 1900


step 3 : - You will receive a  8 Unique Digit Porting ( U.P.C )code
                [Note:- The U.P.C will valid upto 15 days ]


step 4 : - You have to contact your NEW Operator (No need to contact old SIM provider) with Address Proof,Color photo,U.P.C Code.
                [Note:-pre paid portable charge - Rs.19  and Post paid         charge upto Rs.500 ]

step 5 : - They provide a new ( number portability ) sim to you.

step 6 : - They take nearly 5 days to change your operator
                [Note:- In the migration time your number will not work up to 2 hours]


Thats it your old number will work on  new network.
